what this channel is all about grabbing very basic ingredients and turning them into delicious food today's recipe is no exception we are making homemade fish nuggets folks this is truly such a special dish these fish nuggets are perfect for kids. Yet bold enough for adults this is comfort food at its best and let me tell you these fish nuggets have the most incredible flavors and textures they're easier to make than you think and it's all done in less than 30 minutes.
We’re going to begin by making our batter first I’m going to add in half a cup of all-purpose flour into a large bowl along with half a teaspoon of baking powder half a teaspoon of garlic powder and a generous quarter teaspoon of sweet smoked Spanish paprika and mix the dry ingredients together, until they're well combined.
Then I’m going to add in half a cup of water and whisk it all together until you end up with a creamy batter that has no lumps in it and that's the exact texture you want from your batter for the next step I’m gonna measure out one cup of plain breadcrumbs and add them into a separate bowl now the bread crumbs I’m using are called extra crujiente which means extra crispy if you can't find these in your supermarket no big deal just use regular bread crumbs.
I’m gonna season the breadcrumbs with a generous quarter teaspoon of sea salt and mix it all together that way that sea salt is evenly divided alright let's move on to the fish I have some hake fillets here this is 400 grams which is about 14 ounces I bought my frozen and thawed it out just to make things cheaper if you can't find hake in your area no big deal
you can substitute it for either cod sea bass or halibut I’m going to transfer the hake filets into some paper towels and pat them completely dry to remove any of the excess water in the fish this is the secret to give it a beautiful texture and flavor I’m going to season the hake fillets with sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper and cut each fillet into squares that are one and a half inch by one and a half inch
If you can't find this size of fillets in your area only the bigger ones no big deal just makes sure to cut it into squares that are one and a half inch by one and a half inch. Okay let's start coating our pieces of fish first you want to start in the batter make sure to shake off any of the excess batter and then into the bread crumbs make sure the piece of fish is evenly coated with those bread crumbs and I like to do this with separate hands that way i don't add any of the batter into the bread crumbs.
And as you finish each one transfer it into a dish and continue to do this until all your pieces of fish are coated, okay let's start cooking up our fish nuggets I’m gonna grab a large frying pan heat it with a medium heat and add in a generous half cup of sunflower oil if you don't have sunflower oil you can substitute it for any neutral vegetable oil after heating the oil for about four minutes and it's nice and hot.
I’m going to start adding the fish nuggets into the pan. You want to cook these in batches to not overcrowd the pan after about 2 minutes and 15 seconds to two and a half minutes I’m gonna flip the fish nuggets to fry the other side now the thickness of this fish was half an inch so two minutes and 15 seconds to two minutes and a half per side is enough time for that fish to be perfectly cooked through after a total cooking time of about four and a half minutes I’m going to start removing the fish nuggets from the pan using a slotted spoon and transferring them into a dish with some paper towels.
